“My Sunshine” – Ty Segall
Is this guy the man or what?
Indirect Promotion Of The Black Lips
Some guy a couple of years ago blackened the lips of people on various posters around New York City. Well, screw that. Models are now using black lipstick to let everyone know just who their favorite band is. Case in point:

DoS No Age Interview
Talking about the state of the music “industry” seems to be a go-to topic nowadays. Steve Albini and now No Age.
Choice Quote: Dean: “Sometimes I like the idea of playing a house to 10 people but I like playing big places too, it just depends. I like the contrast and getting the best of both worlds of festivals. Seeing a band in a house environment is just the best experience, and you’re not supposed to see a band in there and we always think about how we can re-create that feeling a bigger level.”
Band Recommendation: The Bugs
Description: The Bugs are a band from Portland, Oregon. Not much is known about them. That should change. Their MySpace helps us a little: they are influenced by the late D. Boon and put out an 18 song LP on Hovercraft Records (who?!) in 2009.
Sounds Like: Lo-fi powerpop!
What’s Awesome About Them: Of course, the music itself is really awesome. Imagine the Velvet Underground fronted by a 20 year old from the West Coast who knew about Beat Happening before Beat Happening even became in existence. Besides having a surfy song called “Fuckin A Right” is just perfect. FUCKIN A RIGHT, I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. I REALLY REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.
Commentary By Steve Albini In GQ
Quote of the Week:
“I hope GQ as a magazine fails. I hope that all of these people who make a living by looking pretty are eventually made destitute or forced to do something of substance. At least pornography has a function.”
Secondary Quote:
“People put stuff on YouTube or torrent clients or whatever, not because they’re going to make money off of it, which is the only reason the mainstream industry would do something, but because they think it’s good. It’s a like a worldwide mix tape.”
My Take: It’s like Hustler interviewing Noam Chomsky!
Band Recommendation: Davila 666

Description: Pure fun. No shock that this is one of Cole’s favorite modern bands. They sound really really similar to Black Lips — except they sing in Spanish — so they should be an essential listen for any fans of garage and trash pop. I really dig, at least.
Quick Picks: “Obsesionao” and “Basuara”
Snuggie = Love
Watch and vote for Young Kim’s video since after all…it is the best.
Two Possibly New Hunx + His Punkettes Tracks
They definitely are not on Gay Singles, so I guess we can consider them new?

Best of GG Allin
He’s a tad bit eccentric.
