Somewhere between The Jesus and Mary Chain and the Pixies lay My Bloody Valentine, a band formed in Dublin, Ireland that would be shoegazing, before it was in vogue. With two genius albums (and when I say genius I mean genius) “Isn’t Anything” and their masterpiece “Loveless”, behind them the band broke up in 1997 after years of lack of creative output all hope was loss for a followup to perhaps one of the greatest albums of the 90’s (“Loveless” was released in 1991). But after ten years apart the band reformed in 2007, playing a handful of shows and again sparking rumors of another album, we can only hope.

Band of the Week: No Age :)
Yessir our Band of the Week is the incredible noise pop duo No Age (Dean Allen Spunt-Drums/Vocals and Randy Randall- Guitar), a longtime and beloved KLYAM favorite. NA are a great example of a modern Punk band still keeping the DIY ethos alive, well, and always ready to knock the corporate ogre on his ass. Our guys will be playing at the Middle East this Tuesday, November 16 at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA. Glen, Ben, and I have seen NA three times before, so we know we’re in for one helluva show! For longtime readers of the KLYAM or even our previous blog, http://wakefieldnews.blogspot.com/ y’all already know about these dudes and their great music, but for those who have not heard of NA and/or are new to our blog, check these guys out, one of the finer bands around today- we cover them frequently. In the days leading up to the show more coverage of the one and only No Age will appear. In the meantime, treat your ears to this new classic, “Life Prowler,” opening track from their latest release Everything In Between (2010).

The Nightwatchman- “Battle Hymns”
As with every Vets and Memorial Day(s) I post The Nightwatchman’s “Battle Hymns” in honor of our brave men and women that serve in the military and sacrifice their lives for us. Yes, for us. Maybe not in the political sense, but through an emotional sense; I do not question the pure motivations of these Americans. So, yes I support the troops meaning I respect them for their bravery and committment, but that goes with saying that I am against the military personel that mastermind war and thrust our young brothers and sisters into harm’s way. Personally, I feel these two notions are inseparable. But, enough about me, the song here is The Nightwatchman (Tom Morello)- “Battle Hymns” and it is dedicated to anyone that is been on the battlefield, regardless of ideologies, nations, or any other affliations. In short, this one is for our badass Vets, hope the best for all of you and let’s all END THIS FUCKING WAR!
Chomsky on “Support Our Troops”
I post this not as any personal offense to anyone that would take it offensive, but merely as a catalyst for dialogue. What do people think of this slogan I see so often and clearly visible on today’s holiday. What do you think of Chomsky’s spiel? My thoughts are if you do not outright state that by supporting the troops that you mean bringing them home immediately (not next year, not next month, now) and that the military they are systematically coerced into is an evil killing machine, then you are defending said machine. The slogan itself is hollow, but I do not deny the genuine and loving motivations by the everyday people that shout it, not the faux PR people that manufacture it. That’s what I think. What about you?
Post ‘Oasis’ Beady Eye Releases ‘Bring The Light’
First let me I am a big Oasis fan and one of my biggest disappointments is that I probably will never get the chance to see them live. Anyway after another nasty split by the Gallagher brothers, Liam Gallagher,Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock formed the band Beady Eye while Noel Gallagher (and primary song writer for Oasis) slowly launches his solo career. Time will tell who ends up more successful but Beady Eye has released the first song of their yet untitled album. Can’t say I like it as much as some of the best Oasis songs though.

Band Recommendation-We Were Promised Jetpacks
I first heard these guys as the opening act at a Tokyo Police Club Show, then I heard them again as the opening act for Jimmy Eat World, and I must admit it wasn’t love at first listen, I liked, but I didn’t love. But after seeing them a second time and getting their album “These Four Walls” and their EP “The Last Place You’ll Look” I grew to love them. Their sound is unique, the lead singer has a distinct Scottish accent, musically they sound a little like the acts they opened for, but much more moody and edgier. They are defiantly worth a listen to. I posted the first two tracks off their debut album “These Four Walls” 1) It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning 2) Ships With Holes Will Sink.
