With “Too Much in Love!” This song goes out to all my fellow Bostonians and everyone else out there that have been literally buried in(to) the snow. Long Live the King Khan & BBQ Show!

Classic Film Review: Pink Flamingos

Full Title: Pink Flamingos
Director: John Waters
Year: 1972
Comments: Now, I’ve seen my fair share of sick movies, but this “exercise in poor taste” brings disgusting comedies to a whole new level. Waters places his viewers amongst a sea of vile characters, and adimittedly this is style over substance. Drag Queen, Divine fights with her criminally insane counterparts, Connie and Raymond Marble for the title of “the filthiest person alive” and will stop at anything and I mean anything to wear the crown; in the ninety or so minutes of this film, wild, campy, cinematic fringe entertainment (depraved humor and chaos) ensues! Particularly I love the look of the film: trashy, video, stock footage vibes, as if you are viewing The Mansons Family’s home movies. This look has clearly influenced Justin Kelly’s work in the Hunx videos. All in all just a terrific peek into a bizarre, warped world, most of us would never dare to enter. Hilarious, stupid, vomit inducing, but best of all original. I recommend this to anyone that wants to see an offensive, off the wall, no holds barred comedy.

Who Did It Better? “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”
Well, hello there. I hope all of you are having an amazing Christmas! So, let’s dig into today’s segment of Who Did It Better, shall we? There are so many different versions of this Christmas classic, but here are some notable ones.
Old Blue Eyes sings his heart out.
I really dig the backing vocals.
And here Conor tops Sinatra with this Bright Eyes version.
This song exemplfiies what is great about BE: extremely passionate, somber vocals, practically whispering the words.
And here’s the grandaddy of them all:
Judy Garland- Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
This is my favorite Christmas song; it is not a jingle nor a carol and has more emotion than just about any other holiday song one cares to name. Specifically, I adore this version because of Judy Garland’s exceptional vocals, it just makes the music feel all the more sentimental, in a very good way.
But, what do you guys think?
Sleeping With Mr. Butch

As far as I’m aware Mr. Butch is in a category of his own on Wikipedia. How many homeless people have a Wikipedia page? Mr. Butch was a homeless man who spent somewhere between 20 and 30 years as a hobo in Boston, Massachusetts. He was attached to the Allston community during the latter part of his life. He was killed in 2007. Here is a link to watch a documentary about Mr. Butch:

Here is a collection of quotes from Mr. Butch:
– “Articulate I am for sure. Yes, I have bought many whore. When I had the money I did it straight. Now I have to masturbate.”
– “Please I need some money. It’s not funny.”
– “Penny, nickel, dime, or quarter. Any way, any order.”
– “Today be drinking, smoking some weed. That’s about all I need. If I can find a girl to give me a hand-job, I’m not a fool, I’m not a slob.”
– “For me, it’s like I have to screw and lay before I see my guiding day. I go on straight, I go on hard. I hope that I can get a dick at least a yard.”
– “The last woman I had. We screwed and then she said good-bye dude. Broke my heart, made me feel bad. That’s the last woman I had.”
– “Well I got a dollar and seventy-five cents. I guess I get some beer!”
Some Beets Footage I Stumbled Upon
Bright Eyes – “Four Winds”
On Friday December 17 tickets go on sale for Bright Eyes on March 10 at the House of Blues, I bring this up for two reasons, one, I am a big Bright Eyes fan, but also for the past couple of years there have been rumors about Bright Eyes breaking up so Conor Oberst can concentrate on other projects. Will this be the final go around, maybe-maybe not, in any case I am hedging my bets and going, better to play it safe then miss out.
Who Did it Better? “I Fought The Law”
A unknown musical fact I came across today (uknown to me anyway), The Clash’s classic song “I Fought The Law” was not a orginal song from the band, it actually was an old song from a band called The Crickets from 1961, who at one time played with Buddy Holly. So for this edition, we are going to look at the original song, The Clash’s cover, and just for the sake of argument, a couple of other covers.
First up, The Crickets:
Next The Clash
Here is A Green Day cover:
Lastly a Dead Kennedy’s cover:
Just going by what was on Youtube this is probably this most covered song KLYAM ever did, so there was actually some selective editing on my part. I went with a punk heavy rotation though because at its heart I think it is a punk song, and I think the Clash do it best. Although the original has some charm to it and I like the edge of the Dead Kennedy’s version (I wasn’t feeling Green Day, I haven’t been feeling them since American Idiot to be honest with you).
Chris’s Top Songs of Twenty Ten

The Top Song of 2010 for this cat is none other than the Box Elders’ classic “Tiny Sioux” released on Hozac records. Being a massive fan of the Box Elders, I naturally elected this ditty as Song of the Year, but with all that excessive fandom aside, I think this tune has attributes that can be genuinely appreciated by “non-garage” fans: the sincerity of the lyrics and the heartfelt delivery of the vocals. The lo-fi, home recording insanely complements the overall innocence of the number, making it feel like a sad, but beautiful children’s song, as if to be heard before falling asleep. I didn’t think the Omaha boys could top themselves after “Atlantis” from last year’s LP Alice and Friends or at least do it so soon, but indeed they did and this is without a doubt my favorite BE number. Y’all have to hear this!
Okay, so the rest of this list will be in alaphabetical order and I have set it to a three song per artist limit. Here we go…

The Spirit of Christmas
Here’s the original from 1992. This is the earliest incarnation of South Park in which Jesus anilhilates an Evil Frosty! The Kenny killed looks just like Cartman haha.
and here’s the second version made a few years later. In this one the characters appear (in terms of animation and character) as they would in the future series, it just looks crappier. Instead of Frosty, we witness Jesus v. Santa! Who will win this epic showdown for the bragging rights of Father Christmas?
