Song Review: “Post Acid”

Band: Wavves
Label: Green Label Sound
Upcoming Album: King of the Beach [8/2010]

Comments: It’s clean and clear blah blah blah blah blah blah. Wavves has fun with this song clearly and it has a what/the/fuck-i-heard-this-in-the-1990s-on-pop-radio verse-chorus dynamic. It’s brief enough that I do get some pleasure from listening to it. It’s nice to know that this just wasn’t Nathan Williams fucking around on his computer to make this. Or was it? At any rate, it seems like quality mattered on this one. Was the band going for the 1990s pop-rock card or does it just sound that way? It’s memorable, but it fades fast.

Grade: B+

Beer Review: Sol

Brewed By: Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma
Owned By: Heineken International
Method: Bottle [12 FL OZ]
Quantity Consumed: 7

Comments: The thing about Sol is that you must stick a lime in the bottle in order to appreciate it. Once you have one Sol, you can have six more and still think you are still drinking your second one. Sol doesn’t do much damage to your motor abilities BUT don’t think that I’m saying you should just keep guzzling them down without restraint. No, no. Consume in moderation over a few hours. 7 is moderation when looking at the big picture. Also, I’m pretty sure you will enjoy the taste. It’s much better than any other beer that I’ve had. I’ll be ordering my next shipment soon.

Grade: A (Not perfect, but what beats it?)

KK+BBQ Break-Up?! WTF!

I come home from an enjoyable vacation only to read about the possible ending of one of my favorite bands consisting of two of my favorite muscians…say what the fuck? King Khan (apparently) wrote a huge ass letter to The Daily Swarm after KK+BBQ’s performance in Australia and said:

http://www.thedailyswarm.com/swarm/king-khan-vs-sydneys-opera-house-starring-lou-reed-laurie-anderson-rubber-snakes-chinese-food-tai-chi-and-demise-king-khan-bbq-show/

We were literally told to “tone it down a notch.” This message was conveyed to us in a threatening manner and they implied we’d be kicked out the festival. With very little hesitation, I heeded the warning… no snake….no food…. I merely spilled some wine on the floor several times, an ancient gang ritual to commemorate the dead. (Jay Reatard & BJ Womack R.I.P.) At the end of the show instead of the snake I launched my guitar into the audience. The audience caught it and threw it back…. this exchange happened several times and the show was over. Returning to the backstage I opened the door to a scowling BBQ…. A HUGE SCREAMING MATCH ensued and so went the demise of the King Khan & BBQ show…. we agreed that this would be the last show ever. Wow…. what a way to die!!!! After nearly 7 years…. oh well… Lets get fucked up!!!!

I proceeded to feel very emotional… one moment in tears, crying about how two of my best warriors brothers would never know that we made it to the opera house…. I cried because this was the end of a very destructive path i had followed… it made me the world greatest sinner. Thanks to Lou and Laurie… I was beginning to see the light.

Is this true? Is it false?

Great Chomsky Quote

“The United States hasn’t faced a threat probably since the War of 1812.” Noam Chomsky, 1994 from Demystifying Democracy, here is a link for the interview.
http://www.chomsky.info/interviews/1995—-.htm

What do y’all think of that statement? Naturally, in light of the tragedy on 911 it makes you question such a thing (as you should normally anyway), but I probably agree with Noam. I don’t know enought about my history to point to the War of 1812, but certainly the fact that we have a massive military budget for defense from possible threating forces is a joke. Now, like everyone else I don’t want to see another 911, of course. But, to me, that doesn’t constitute as a “threat” as in a threat to the preservation of our entire nation and/or government as it is for some other countries. The attack on 911 was murder on a grand scale and the perpetrators should be held accountable, but that doesn’t appear to be an objective of our goverment, sadly. So, I highly doubt we have to worry about another coutnry threating our overall security, but how do we prevent future, heinous, acts of terror? Well, we stop committing terror ourselves. What do other people think about Chomsky’s quote and my little rant?

Thom Yorke predicts end of mainstream music

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has said in a rare interview that young musicians shouldn’t latch onto the mainstream music industry, saying it will fold onto itself in a matter of months. He says band should release music themselves and not look to get a major record deal. Radiohead set an example of this with the release on 2007’s In Rainbows album, which had a “pay-what-you-want” method of purchase. Since then, thousands of bands and even movies have done this. What do you think of Thom’s prediction? Is it really a matter of months before teenagers will have to work a little bit harder to get the latest Lil’ Wayne track?

The Problem With Music

Speaking of horrifying, disgusting behemoths, such as major labels, I thouhgt I’d post a link to Steve Albini’s harsh classic, “The Problem With Music.” I searched “Fuck Major Labels” on Google and this was the first thing to come up lol. I don’t agree with all of it, but he makes many good points and has the knowledge to back it up, plus it’s quite humorous in the Albini sense.
