Punk Rock =…

Rock and Roll Immortality! Rock and Roll emerged as a way for kids to rebel against their parents and their beliefs. As time went on, Rock died a slow corporate death. In the ashes of this tragedy, the rebellion was revived with Punk Rock. The Ramones, the greatest practicioners of the uprsing, brought Rock and Roll back to the youngsters and pretty soon they had something of their own, something that existed outside of the mainstream. Thus, without the constraint of corporate control, the fun and rebel rousing of the initial Rock boom can live forever through independent music. Thank God for Punk!

Walkmen On Thee Oh See

Sorry for the misspelling. I meant The O.C. I think I might have posted about this before, but I was never able to find footage on YouTube.

Go to 4:38 to see the first song and then 8:00 to hear the second. Side note: I’d love to kiss a chick during “What’s In It For Me.” Lucky bastard.

Little House of Savages (live version) The Walkmen At The Bait Shop, The Walkmen perform on camera as Seth works the door while Summer arrives.
What’s In It For Me (live version) The Walkmen At The Bait Shop, The Walkmen perform on camera as Seth admits to Summer why he got the job at the Bait Shop, then he kisses her.

Here is what lead singer Hamilton Leithauser had to say:

Singer Hamilton Leithauser enjoyed his experience filming the show, though he felt that the staged enthusiasm for the band was a bit much. “There were maybe two hundred extras on the set pretending to just love us, and I had to sing along with the music, and of course everyone else is fake playing — they’re not even plugged in,” Leithauser said. “So it was really an awkward scene for me, but I think you’re just supposed to stand there and look cool anyhow, so I just tried to do that.”

Leithauser, who was surprised the show allowed the Walkmen to play two songs, sees television performances as a solid, if ephemeral, means of promotion. “I don’t think we’ll gain fans,” Leithauser said. “I think people will buy the record though. I think a lot of people bought the record after we were on Dave Letterman and Conan, but I don’t think you can really gain actual fans who are going to really care about the band through such a mass-market thing.”

Just look at the fans, nobody goes that nuts over the Walkmen at shows. It’s like they are seeing Metallica or some shit hahaha.

The “Real” Che

Damn, those models are fine; I’ve always dug Che Tits! Anyway, this is totally biased, which comes as no surprise, worse than the bias of the Che cheerleaders. Of course, I think the caricature of Che is a farce, but as Jay Z put it he’s “complex,” haha, far more complex than this bullshit would leave you to believe. Some things they say are true and naturally they’re horrible. But, they don’t apply the same standards to the U.S. and other figures, which are far, far worse, even if justified. I feel awful for those women, but you don’t think Nazis’ had family? or any other terrorist. That’s what war is, it’s violence on a grand scale. I also feel bad that their loss is being exploited for ratings and pathetic agendas. To compare Che to Bin Laden and the reasons why he, Fidel, and the other Cubans were fighting to America’s reasons for fighting a war is not only childish, but shows the sheer lack of concern for honest observations of foreign policy. In terms of people starving in Cuba, well that would be greatly decreased if the U.S. didn’t place sanctions on them. We easily could aid them, but Castro doesn’t want to be our little puppet bitch like other dictators, so no food for you Cuba. Lastly, the whole racist deal, ( I love how Faux News is saying this of all networks!) Beck is clearly utilizing this to appeal to people’s feelings about race and what have you. Divide and conquer! I have never seen that quote about black folks. I’m not saying it’s not true, but I’m not denying it could be either. I know for a fact that Che sympathized for blacks in the U.S. and he also met with Malcom X when he came over here; both shared great admiration for one another. So, basically follow the woman’s advice, do your own research.

King Khan BBQ Show In AE

Go to your nearest American Eagle (or just take my word for it) and you might just hear The King Khan & BBQ Show. Take a look:

Don’t be mistaken for genius on part of the corporation, though. Radio K, the radio station of University of Minnesota, won some competition that allows them to have their customized play-list looping throughout all stores in the USA for a select time period. Other great bands that you might hear if you go into an American Eagle (why the fuck would you in the first place?) are Atlas Sound, Deerhunter, Girls, Handsome Furs, Julian Casablancas, MGMT, Peter Bjorn and John, Phoenix, Shout Out Louds, Thee Oh Sees, The War on Drugs, Thurston Moore, and Yo La Tengo. Typical college radio.

Chris On…

Lady Gaga: Not as outrageous and monstrous as the big corporate creatures would like you to believe. Her whole shock thang is nothing new. Her purpose is to creep you out and creep you in again lol and she succeeds and loves it. But, there’s nothing triumphant about that. It’s like Madonna’s sex book, created solely for attention and to prove that sex sells. WELL NO SHIT! Do you know what country your in? Might as well go crazy and make a wild, cutting edge porno while you are trying to “dupe” us into buying your filth, instead of some risque black and white photos. Well, now I’ve digressed from the original topic, Ms. Gaga. Can’t believe I’m writing that retarded name. I’ll admit, I do find her sexy in her bizarre weirdo costumes, but her music still severely sucks and her act reminds me of a bad version of Alice Cooper (who I’m a huge fan of musically and theatrically), especially her performance at last week’s Grammys, which I watched in Cultural Studies class. I hate when folks rave about how wild she is and what not. Consider most of the bands we champion on here… need I say more? Alas, she’s a mere pawn in the corporate gangbang. Who isn’t?!

Death Penalty: I would never give the state the power to execute an individual. Are you outta your fucking minds?! Horrible idea. Yes, I know some fuckers truly deserve to be dead and in fact perhaps deserve a far worse death than a pussy injection. But, in the grand scheme of things it’s not just. I agree human life should be valued, but I don’t necessarily see it as the most inhumane concept either. My contention is why let some fucks die and let even worse mass murderers get away scott free and live happily ever after? Of course I am speaking of various powerful, political figures, namely those at the top like the Commander in Chief. The Chief torturer of the world. The Chief terrorist of the world. So, in other words, abolish the death penalty and FREE MUMIA IMMEDIATELY!!!

High Art Vs. Pop/Low Art: Ohh Che, you cute, pop superstar! The photo is courtesy of Mr. Andy Warhola lol. What is high art/culture and what is low/art culture? Well, these terms mean different things to different people. Some say Beethoven’s symphony is high art made for the intellectually inclined few and the fast bubblegum blasting rock of the Ramones is low art made for the uneducated masses. Perhaps, but to me such distinctions as high and low is far too elitist. I prefer to north and south and east and west and up and down and all around and do the naked hoola dance and if it’s grooving, I’ll keep moving, and if it’s slime, it ain’t worth my time.
