King Khan & BBQ Show Hopes and Expectations…

Hopes: I hope they play all the songs Glen saw last night in addition to “Too Much in Love”- I WILL GO INSANE IF THEY PLAY THIS NUMBER and “What’s For Dinner?” It is a better concert than the one Glen described even though that sounded amazing. The crowd is really engergetic and engaged and everyone shaking their ass to the floor and it’s in my top 2 favorite concerts!

Expectations: They play most, but not all of those songs. I have a great time. It’s “up there” as one of the best I’ve seen.

Film Review: Zombieland

Full Title: Zombieland
Year: 2009
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, and Bill Murray
Running Time: 88 minutes
Rating: R
IMDb Rating: 8.2 ( #182 in the top 250)
My Rating: A- 9.0
Here’s Why:
Killing zombies, discovering new loved ones, and enjoying the simple things in life like a delicious twinkie! Who could ask for more? In a world run by the undead, what are you going to do anyway? Right? In this action packed Horror/Comedy flick, we learn how to survive a zombie world invasion and the seemingly harder task of creating a new family with the only humans left. This is being placed on my list for best of 2009. Don’t worry it is not knocking (500) Days of Summer or Inglourious Basterds out of their well desreved ranks. But, I strongly recommend everyone to journey to your local cinema and see this. The film masterfully keeps its viewers in suspense with humor, romance, and drama. I especially dug the narrator’s rules for surviving a zombie invasion. There were over thirty and if you wanted to live then you best follow them. Some included cardio, have to run fast from those bastards, the double tap: after shooting a zombie, shoot it again to make sure it’s dead, always checking the backseat, amongst others. Overall, this was a fun movie and a particularly great experience fore me because I saw it with a very lovely lady ;).

Comedy Review: Bo Burnham

Comedian: Bo Burnham
Date: October 22, 2009
Location: UMass Lowell, Campus Rec Center
Rating: A-
Here’s Why:
Nineteen year old Bo Burnham rocked, shocked, and mocked UML students and fans alike (BO) Fo Sho! As he scattered onto the stage, he lamented of past, sour relationships, before he began his string of “racist” jokes, with blacks being his primary victims: “OHH MY GOD! Ohhh it’s just my shadow… I thought it was a black guy.” Though, I see these simply as JOKES most seem to not comprehend this and comment, “boy, he really hates black people… but he’s fucking hilarious!” Most bigots don’t crack me up, but that doesn’t matter, because I am not reviewing one. Anyway, despite or perhaps because he is so edgy the crowd adored his set and spent most of it laughing their asses off, self included. Bo’s set included songs (piano and guitar work) lampooning the holocaust, slavery, gay marriage, Helen Keller, the disabled, JFK’s Assasination, and much more. In between songs, Bo commanded the mic pacing through the crowd interviewing students and then later reciting haikus. I will say there is one crticism of his material that I agree with; it is easy to poke jokes about black people, both white and black stand ups have been doing this for years and it is far from unique. With that being said, he is highly creative and his music, comedy, etc. is very funny, if not the most original. Also, as I mentioned previously, Bo is merely nineteen years of age; if you look at his comedic counterparts, you will be hard pressed to find others that have such high quality material at such a young age.
Here are some of the most memorable lines:
“Rosa Parks should have called shotgun”

“My aunt always said slow and steady wins the race. She died in a fire.”

Acting as a fan,”Is there anything off limits for you? Yeah, white people. We’ve been through too much.”

“Do unto others as you would want done to you… said the rapist.”
Strumming his guitar before he is about to sing a song, “If you know the words then shut the fuck up.”

“The Minuteman, that’s what the ladies call me.”

“How old is too old to stop believing in the tooth fairy, cause my cousin is fourteen years old and he still believes in gay marriage.”

There was definitely more, but I’m drawing (and shooting) blanks. So, that’s all folks.

New Bill Music!

Well, not quite new lol, but finally available. Hopefully more will come, slowly, but surely they’re making their way to the the public and word around the campfire is that an album of Bill’s music will be released in the future. Bits from all of these songs were carefully and masterfully dipped into parts of Bill’s magnum opus, Rant in E-Minor. But, these are the songs in their entireties. “She’s A Woman” is my favorite. Check it out!

Why I Like JFK More Than Bill Clinton?…….

Well, now who gives a flying fuck?! What were we talking about? Ok, I’ll allow y’all to stare for a few more seconds………. ok ok that’s enough staring for now. Now focus! I like JFK more not because of any policy or inspiration or any of that horseshit; let’s face it they were both corporate puppets and mass murderers, just like all of their presidential buddies. But, what made them unique and my personal favorites was their charisma and “gotta love them” persona. No matter what these guys did, they could get away with it. Of course this included being the biggest philanderers God created. Now, why good old Johnny over good old Billy? Well, plain and simple: if you have all that power, you can pretty much do the wild thang with anyone… Bill Clinton slept with mostly unattractive, sometimes fat women, (to each his own) but John Kennedy slept with movie stars, specifically the hottest of any generation man will ever know. So, cheers to him. With all that being said, I still am against adultery, but I find that to be the least of evils these men have bestowed upon us. It’s really funny that this was the topic of discussion for much of my American Politics class today. Good Class. I also plan on writing more on JFK and the myth of his cult of personality as well as comparig said features to that of our current president. In time.

Well, I hope that pic of old Norma Jean brings some horny gentlemen (and lesbians) to the site!

Question of the Week…?

This question is entirely influenced by The Needle Drop, as is this entire segment. Here it is:

What does Punk Rock Mean to You? Examples?

Just to get the ball rolling, here’s what I think. Punk Rock means to me, freedom to act, sound, look, smell, or taste however you like. The elements of attitude, integrity, and passion are clearly displayed. Artists are NOTsigned to major labels, with exceptions to early “Punk” artists. Lastly, music that is cutting edge and/or distinctive. For modern examples, my favorite punk bands are The Black Lips, Jay Reatard, The King Khan & BBQ Show, No Age, Mika Miko, and Wavves.

Pleaseeeee Comment!

JAY REATARD + PIXIES = GREAT BIG WANG!

Earlier this month, Memphis garage punk Jay Reatard lost his rhythm section. Bassist Stephen Pope and drummer Billy Hayes quit Reatard’s band, an event that Reatard himself addressed on his Twitter with characteristic restraint and maturity: “Fuck them! But the Matablog reports that Reatard has already lined up replacements: bassist Anders Thode and drummer Jacob Elving, both of the Danish punk band the Cola Freaks.
