Squamscot Beverages is taking the world by storm, one person at a time. One wise drinker commented, “best damn soda I’ve ever had. No joke.” No joke, indeed. They’ve got more flavors of soda than you’ve got fingers and toes. Located in picturesque Newsfields, NH, you ought to stop by for some hand crafted soda made by locals for all to drink. I tried the Lemon Lime and it makes Sprite look like something your sister’s cousin made for a fifth grade science fair. Exactly.
One of the best Ramones songs/videos. The Ramones were/are the greatest, like the halfway point in Rock and Roll- they represented and still represent the past (Early Rock and Roll pre 70s/late 60s even), the Present (the 70s, present for them anyway) and the future (today), everything that came before and would come next. Completely derivative, but also cutting edge. Fucking love it. If you don’t like it, then you are on glue! Nuff said.
Alright, alright, I’ll take it easy on my Hunx references
On April 12, 1954 Bill Haley recorded “Rock Around the Clock,” thus giving birth to Rock and Roll. What most people don’t know is that Bill Haley gave birth to two babies that night. Rock and Roll’s half retarded, fucked up twin brother was lost, abandoned for years, until suddenly in June 2009 he returned to the public eye as KLYAM (pronounced clam) or Kids Like You & Me as he is sometimes known by his friends.
THE TIME IS NOW. ALL WOMEN SURRENDER YOURSELVES TO KLYAM!*
Coming in four days is a new EP from King Khan called The King Khan Experience. It will be released on the Scion A/V label as a free digital download. There are a couple tracks up for grabs right now, “Come Levitate” and “I Got Love.” It’s like the Shrines minus the Shrines. Rock n Soul like we’re used to from Khan.
It has come to my knowledge that Natty Child is playing Twin Towers on November 1. That’s a Tuesday. Facebook event: HERE. Other bands on that bill: VIVA VIVA, NEEDY VISIONS, NEW HIGHWAY HYMNAL. Stacked LINE-UP.
Cartman Vs. the Principal and other teachers on the humor (or lack thereof) of another student defecating in his own pants during school:
“OK, but you probably understand that, for Pete, it isn’t that funny. For him it’s embarrassing and terrifying.” – Principal
“Heh heh. Right. That’s why it’s super funny. To me.” – Cartman, from last night’s episode, “Bass to Mouth,” Season 15, Episode 3. Courtesy of http://cliqueclack.com/tv/2011/10/19/south-park-bass-to-mouth/
Artists: Those Darlins, Movers and Shakers (we missed :( ), Atlantic Thrills Date: Saturday, October 15, 2011 Venue: Middle East Downstairs (Cambridge, MA) Comments: Act I: Atlantic Thrills– Atlantic Skillz is kind of like what would happen if the Black Lips were a twelve year old kid caught masturbating by their shady uncle Los Saicos and were forced to sing and dance for a half hour. I’m not sure how that makes any sense whatsover, but in more common terms you could say these guys have that nice Punk Slime flavor of garage rock found in the Lips music amongst other practicioners of said style. Just fun, rock and roll you can dance and drink along to- I mean what kind of rock and roll can you not do that to? Well, if you can, then you don’t like rock and roll and I don’t like you, but that’s another whole can o’ worms. The Thrills set some nice vibes for the evening and “Acid Rain,” everyone’s fave was a particular stand out; got me all revved up and ready to go. And when that happens, you know to move back about five feet or else*…
Act II (That KLYAM saw): Those Darlins– Those Darlins have been a favorite of mine for about two years now; a band I often recommend to those kids lurking around, asking for “new” or “good” music. Apparently, they have yet to discover the internet, but that is okay. That’s what I was put here for, to spread my love. The Darlins put on a great, rockin show per usual- well at least in my experience, they have been a fun, live band; I saw them last year at T.T the Bears. That was a cool show, but I’d say they rocked even harder this time around and the PA at the Middle East was/is superior, so that definitely amplified the greatness. The set consisted of tunes from both their studio albums, Those Darlins (2009) and Screws Get Loose (2011). I prefer the former, and “Red Light Love,” “The Whole Damn Thing,” and “Wild One,” got me real excited as they always do, definitely some of their finest songs to date. I really dug their encore (I noted this the last time I saw them) which featured some sick classics including “Night Jogger” and “Funstix Party.” FP is a Darlins fave of mine for sure, it sorta reminds me of King Khan & BBQ at their raunchiest. In any case, it was a fun show, so if Those Darlins are stopping by your town, GO AND SEE THEM!
Grade : 7/10
Here’s the relatively new music video for “Scews Get Loose”:
Remember when you first heard of Bloodshot Bill. You went to his website and saw that damn counter at the bottom of the page saying he wouldn’t be back in US of A for another 669 days or something like that. You thought, “Damn, it’s going to be a long while ’til I see this dude live.” Well, 669 turned into 400 turned into 100 and is now sitting at 21. Yup, after five long years, Bill will return to America. First for the special Norton Records 25th Anniversary show in NYC on November 13 and then for a three week tour accompanied by King Khan via Tandoori Knights. Find the dates HERE and watch a video below.
“Crucified on a cross in front of all of my closest friends.”
One of Deerhunter’s greatest songs and a terrific closer to Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. (2008). I get pumped up each time I hear Moses’s drums storm in.
The Walkmen are back at the recording thing again. They’ve apparently recorded 15 songs and might just finish the thing by November. In customary Walkmen style, they’ve been road-testing the new batch of songs. It’s never a good idea to get too excited about these new ones. As we know from past experience, the end products of these new live songs are certainly subject to change. At any rate, big fans over at the Walkmen Forum (accessible through here) are buzzing about the new songs. I believe you can still download their Austin City Limits set (new songs included, of course) in one of those threads. So how exactly are the new songs? See for yourself, but I will say they are over the place. We’ve got something that wouldn’t be exactly out of place on Lisbon tentatively [on the internet, anyway] titled “In The House You Made”. It’s a stripped down, fairly slow one, with a very strong finish! Another is “Love You Love,” which is heavier, but can’t quite say I’m much of a fan of it. Back to the basics with “Southern Heart,” just good ole electric guitar. “I’m Not Your Heartbreaker” is where it’s at. Sounds at first like some quasi-Bows and Arrows shizzle and has one of the catchiest choruses we’ve heard since You & Me. Finally there’s “Radio City,” which is a pretty funny song. It reminds me of The Recoys. Ham’s vocal delivery is as spirited as it was back in the ole ‘garage’ ’98 days… “Song of the Paper Dolls” kind of thing. Well anyway, I look forward to hearing more news come out about this album.
