KING KHAN & THE SHRINES TOUR DATES/SINCLAIR (6/10/14)!

Shrines Brighton
King Khan from the last time (10/29/13) The Shrines were in Boston

I always love discovering that one of my favorite national or better yet international bands is coming to town. It’s like a birthday gift in its own little way. This time, it’s the soul machine nine piece: King Khan & The Shrines – his sensational shrines. They are heading on two massive tours (Europe & North America), making a stop at The Sinclair in Cambridge on Tuesday, June 10th. Be there or be somewhere else significantly less spiritually awakening.

Bloodshot Bill Back In USA In 3 Weeks; Tandoori Knights Touring

Remember when you first heard of Bloodshot Bill. You went to his website and saw that damn counter at the bottom of the page saying he wouldn’t be back in US of A for another 669 days or something like that. You thought, “Damn, it’s going to be a long while ’til I see this dude live.” Well, 669 turned into 400 turned into 100 and is now sitting at 21. Yup, after five long years, Bill will return to America. First for the special Norton Records 25th Anniversary show in NYC on November 13 and then for a three week tour accompanied by King Khan via Tandoori Knights. Find the dates HERE and watch a video below.

Add KhanWood Clarke To King’s Long List of Bands

Who? KhanWood Clarke. King KHAN, Sean WOOD [Spits], and Jeff CLARKE [Demon’s Claws]
What? A MoonStudio production. The joys of having your own studio. Old country music, a bit like when Nobunny picks up the acoustic
When?
Sort of now, but the folks above need $$$ to get Wood to
Where? Berlin
Why? ‘Cause

If you take a listen to “Dirtiest Girl” (a demo), you will be greeted to fine lyrics as:

everyone knows you're the dirtiest girl in town
that you fucked every guy for sixty five miles around
but sugar you know I know my night at all
'cause it's always back to me that you seem to crawl

well every guy in town seems to know you're always at the bar
no matter which day of the week it seems to be
but after you wake up in some strange room on the other side of town
i know you'll always be coming back home to me

well i don't mind that you're a little pig around town
i don't mind at all if you like to sleep around
as long as you're home for breakfast, i don't mind at all

whiskey bottle, empty on the back seat of the car
where'd you sleep last night, I don't even want to know
as long as you're home for breakfast, i don't mind at all

“Indian men are built like brick shit houses and fuck like snakes” ends another sure to be classic, the demo “Old Gunga Din

Comments: About time for a review of this record, which is surely something else. The story is warm one: rockabilly Indo-Canadian Bloodshot Bill gets together with fellow Indo-Canadian, garage/punk/soul master Arish King Khan and they decide to make a record. They could’ve stuck to a traditional script that utilized the best of both worlds as Bill and multi-talented kingpin Mark Sultan did when they got together and recorded The Ding-Dongs. Curry Up sounds like a natural export of Hindustan, at least as soon as the guitar begins on “Pretty Please”. Bill takes the lead vocals on pretty much all of the tracks, which kind of makes this sound pretty Bloodshot Bill-esque. Bill’s vocal flexibility and plethora of musical skill means that he can pull something like this off pretty well. King is heard sparsely on this record, which is disappointing as a bigger King fan. These songs are quite humorous, making me think I probably shouldn’t take this record too seriously! As a cheesy one-off, it is what it is. At the apex of funniness is probably “Into Her Arms,” a tale of falling into the octo-arms of some nice Indian lady. What’s the purpose of the eight arms? Well, “one to whore me, one to score me, two to spank me, four to thank me!”
