Get a look at this:

3. Will you join the Republican National Committee by making a contribution today?
() – Yes, I support the RNC and am enclosing my most generous contribution of: _______
() – Yes, I support the RNC, but I am unable to participate at this time…I have enclosed $12.
() – No, I favor electing liberal Democrats over the next ten years.

How about…all three options suck! RNC is dumb.

8 Ways To Culture Jam The Economy!

If you really want to culture jam the economy, here are some methods:

1. Buy stocks without a broker. (Only ownership changes.)
2. Give somebody a gift of cash or receive a gift of cash. (Only ownership changes.)
3. Sell used goods. (Prices can’t be counted twice.)
4. Marry a maid. (The maid doesn’t get paid for household tasks!)
5. Pay under-the-table. (No need to do any financial reporting.)
6. Buy a whore.
7. Gamble amongst yourselves.
8. Buy drugs!

You are on your own. KLYAM doesn’t necessarily endorse any of the above.

Academic Application!

It’s been a while since I did an Academic Application. They are so 2007 aren’t?

Subject: Microeconomics
Example: Total and Marginal Utility of Downloading and Reviewing Digital Music Albums

# Reviewed Per Week….Total Utility…Marginal Utility
0 ……..0……….0
1 ………9.3…..9.3
2………18.2…8.9
3………25.1…6.9

What’s happening? Total utility is increasing and marginal utility is decreasing. If I listened to a great fourth album, this whole thing would be fucked up because at a certain point I’m supposed to derive zero marginal utility from listening to more than ______ albums. Albums with zero marginal utility or negative marginal utility are essentially nuisances. Even if I illegally download albums for zero cost, the entire process could become a nuisance to me. Maybe I wouldn’t be able to review all the albums that I downloaded. In that case, maybe I will give those albums lower scores because I didn’t bother to completely listen to them. These downloaded albums would become “bads” because they serve no utility to me at all. Also, why should I review a great number of albums if I am not getting paid? Wouldn’t it be most useful to review just one album a week and spend a lot of time examining it?

CD Review: Gay Singles

Band: Hunx and His Punx
Label: True Panther Sounds
Release: 2009

1. “You Don’t Like Rock ‘N Roll” – 9.5
2. “Gimmie Gimmie Back Your Love” – 8.6
3. “Hey Rocky” – 9.3
4. “Movin’ On” – 8.6
5. “Cruising” – 9.6
6. “Good Kisser” – 9.2
7. “Don’t Cha Want Me Back” – 8.3
8. “The Last Time” – 8.5

10. “I Won’t  Get Under You” – 8.6
11. “You Better Tell That Girl” – 9.0
12. “Do the Make Up” – 8.9

Comments: As Chris said in a concert review from October 3, “If you think you have seen homocore or queercore, then look again. Hunx and His Punx is just about as gay as it gets and unabashedly so.” If you ignore the hilariously creepy/flamboyant lyrics, these are pretty damn awesome glam pop-punk songs. You know, basic chord structures playing underneath an effeminate voice. Let’s not ignore lyrics for one second. Take “Hey Rocky,” which is about a gay one night stand with said man. Lyrics alone could be offensive to many, but a plethora of popular hip-hop/pop songs today are just as disgusting/immoral as this. You can’t make the claim that these songs aren’t catchy. Musically, they are as fun as can be. “I’ve got so many fellas, I make all the ladies jealous. Just hope they’re playing on my team,” hollers Hunx on “Cruisin’.” A typical immediate reaction might be: “Oh my…gay!” And that was my reaction. Try watching 10 seconds of the music video. But..but…”Cruisin'” is easily one of the rhythmically catchiest songs on here.

Comedy Review: Bo Burnham

Comedian: Bo Burnham
Date: October 22, 2009
Location: UMass Lowell, Campus Rec Center
Rating: A-
Here’s Why:
Nineteen year old Bo Burnham rocked, shocked, and mocked UML students and fans alike (BO) Fo Sho! As he scattered onto the stage, he lamented of past, sour relationships, before he began his string of “racist” jokes, with blacks being his primary victims: “OHH MY GOD! Ohhh it’s just my shadow… I thought it was a black guy.” Though, I see these simply as JOKES most seem to not comprehend this and comment, “boy, he really hates black people… but he’s fucking hilarious!” Most bigots don’t crack me up, but that doesn’t matter, because I am not reviewing one. Anyway, despite or perhaps because he is so edgy the crowd adored his set and spent most of it laughing their asses off, self included. Bo’s set included songs (piano and guitar work) lampooning the holocaust, slavery, gay marriage, Helen Keller, the disabled, JFK’s Assasination, and much more. In between songs, Bo commanded the mic pacing through the crowd interviewing students and then later reciting haikus. I will say there is one crticism of his material that I agree with; it is easy to poke jokes about black people, both white and black stand ups have been doing this for years and it is far from unique. With that being said, he is highly creative and his music, comedy, etc. is very funny, if not the most original. Also, as I mentioned previously, Bo is merely nineteen years of age; if you look at his comedic counterparts, you will be hard pressed to find others that have such high quality material at such a young age.
Here are some of the most memorable lines:
“Rosa Parks should have called shotgun”

“My aunt always said slow and steady wins the race. She died in a fire.”

Acting as a fan,”Is there anything off limits for you? Yeah, white people. We’ve been through too much.”

“Do unto others as you would want done to you… said the rapist.”
Strumming his guitar before he is about to sing a song, “If you know the words then shut the fuck up.”

“The Minuteman, that’s what the ladies call me.”

“How old is too old to stop believing in the tooth fairy, cause my cousin is fourteen years old and he still believes in gay marriage.”

There was definitely more, but I’m drawing (and shooting) blanks. So, that’s all folks.

CD Review: Phrazes For The Young

Band: Julian Casablancas (The Strokes)
Label: Rough Trade
Release: November 3, 2009

1. “Out of the Blue” – 9.6
2. “Left & Right In The Dark” – 9.1
3. “11th Dimension” – 9.9
4. “4 Chords of the Apocalypse” – 8.8
5. “Ludlow St.” – 8.9
6. “River of Breaklights” – 9.2
7. “Glass” – 9.3
8. “Tourist” – 9.5

Comments: If I had my ways, I would wish every song on here would be as great as “11th Dimension.” That’s not the case, but what we have here is a very noteworthy effort from Casablancas. He loves his synths and drum beats and he sure loves changing things up from track to track. As for the Strokes comparisons…you’ll (obviously) hear it in his voice, but the instrumentation is very different for the most part. Overall, this should land in top 20 lists for ’09, but I’d be fooled to see it appear as one of the very best.

Grade: 9.3

Sittin On My Ass, Be Creative Tomorrow…

I rarely do this and this is more of a reminder for myself, but I am using this post to let y’all know of two future entries I will be publishing. 1) Bo Burnham- Comedy Show Review. 2) Zombieland- Film Review. Almost 3) Australian Pink Floyd, but nooooo I had work and missed it! The world can be a cruel place sometimes… Anyway, you may be asking why are you not posting these reviews now? Well, frankly my deer I don’t give a dayemmm aka I’m too tired after work (actually not that bad, tho tiring) papers, and lack of sleep and I’d rather watch the second half of Malcolm X accompanied by some mouth watering chicken fingers and waffle fries. See you soon.
