Band of the Week: Wheels On Fire

Wheels On Fire! Go on YouTube, you won’t find too much tune-age. Tune your radio to WMBR and you might just hear these guys. I did this morning, in fact. Becky, the DJ of Breakfast of Champions (what a DJ by the way, playing my request of “Punk Slime” in a timely fashion), spinned “Losin” off their 2010 Liar, Liar record. That song was instantly catchy and I had no clue it was by Wheels On Fire. Thanks to Track Blaster, though, for showing me the way. At any rate, I haven’t heard a Wheels On Fire track that did not appeal to me. So Band of the Week, check them out somehow!

Band of the Week: Wavves

Yep, you guessed it. Wavves is the KLYAM’s Band of the Week. What warrants such an honor? Let’s see dropping the greatest LP of the past year (King of the Beach)-at least our favorite, playing one of our top shows of Twenty Ten, or just being all around great guys! In any case, Wavves deserve the recognition, as they have been rightfully receiving from various media outlets in recent time. Absolutely one of my top ten favorite bands right now; can’t wait to see them live again this Friday, February 4 at the Paradise Rock Club opening for Best Coast.

“There’s something about the Summer.”

Band of the Week: Lost Sounds

This week we are breaking the mold of expectation just a smidgen. For the first time we are harking back to an older group as our Band of the Week. In honor of the recent first year anniversery of Jay Reatard’s death, here is the Lost Sounds, one of Jay’s earlier bands- a synth heavy, bizarre Punk outfit that had a nice flavor of Jay to it, but was also completely disparate from his solo work that you could enjoy on both levels. From what I hear, they were fantastic live. Oh, it’s such as shame! Jay Reatard: 1980-2010.

Band of the Week: Deerhunter

As the year is winding down, we figured for this final Band of the Week (for 2010) we would go with not just a cool band we think people should hear, but rather one of our favorite bands of the year and whom we feel are one of the best bands in music right now as a whole: Deerhunter. Personally, I love much of Deerhunter’s previous work, but their recent release Halcyon Digest seriously moved me and affirmed their status as one of my all time favorite bands (top ten) and as Honorary KLYAMers. Great work guys! Can’t wait to see you next year.
