This Day In KLYAM (July 25)
Nothing directly KLYAM related. But on July 25, 2003, the Black Lips played a wild show in NYC and Tony Arena uploaded it to YouTube many years later. The show was put on by Tom Dash. Who are all these people? Answers may be found among – where else – Terminal Boredom gold from when I posted a thread about this video four years back. Check everything out. All of it!
NEXT KLYAM SHOW: AUGUST 1 @ HONG KONG
Remembering The Black Lodge (Lower Allston)
Chris Reminisces on Black Lodge w/ Gritty Chipping In
The first time I ever heard of Black Lodge was September or October 2012. The Migs were playing there and we were huge Migs fans. I remember writing on the calendar that The Migs were playing Black Lodge. We had already been to houses in Allston, but I remember keeping the name Black Lodge on the backburner. On KLYAM we used to keep a Boston Venue Guide and we put Black Lodge on there because of The Migs show. I never heard about it for a while after that. Over the course of 2013, we got to know Nice Guys and Miami Doritos. A lot of times when we were in the Allston area we would show up to the house and just hang out. You could just show up and hang out. Not necessarily texting or calling. Like when you were a kid in the neighborhood.
In November 2013, Nice Guys and Miami Doritos performed some songs for us in the basement. These would be the ones included on the splifft 7″ we did with them. The first show I saw at The Black Lodge was the BBQ in August 2014.
Gritty: It’s wild that the Girlpool show was the first show I saw there.
We crashed there so many times after shows. A lot of waking up early, hitting the train, and going to work in the morning.
The Girlpool one is interesting because they became such a big band. For their set, I was on the couch in the living room. Comfortable there. Heard the music from below. I was really couchlocked and didn’t feel like moving at all. It was a great show overall.
The first two KLYAM A Mouth’s A Mouth Noise Fests were there. We didn’t know what to expect. We had come off the Rama Lama which was way more conventional. It was awesome that Black Lodge was a home for the fests. People were grilling. People came out.
My favorite show (I’m biased) is the Foodmasters, Cavemen, Birthing Hips, Candy Miami, Steamtraktor show. It was such a weird fun show. It was the inspiration for the noise fests. It was the last show I went to before starting a big boy job.
Black Lodge was a home away from home. If we needed a place to crash or hang out. Not to mention the shows. Seven years is a really long time for anything, but for a showhouse that is a really long time.
