Mark just posted a slew of things on his newly re-designed website:
1. His new song “Calloused Hands,” which is reminiscent of the greatness of $. Speaking of that…
2. $ should be out on vinyl in record stores sometime in September.
3. There’s a Vimeo video for “Status,” which keeps getting banned from YouTube.
4. An explanation about the last days of The King Khan & BBQ Show. A couple of months back, I posted what Mark briefly clarified, but he details what exactly transpired.
5. The Jumbo Lions. An evolution of The King Khan & BBQ Show, or in Mark’s words: “A new, hyper-surrealist, psychedelic, rock’n’roll mindfuck…”
And finally:
BBQ is playing October 17 in Boston at the Homegrown Fest. The huh? Exactly. Apparently it’s a 21+ festival that takes place at a venue called Church. It’s a one off a thing, I gather.
Mark Sultan spotted their little game so they said bad things about him. That’s the kind of business that is, anything for some publicity, some angle, some advantage. He is more clever then he is credited, and is very perceptive. I was wrong to suggest there was something to what they said, as a result of confusion and there was lots of that.
It could be that he’s sensitive or something but he perhaps hedges himself against criticism by announcing to people that he expects negative reactions to his work from even everyone, sometimes making it look as if he’s against the world or something, or that people out there are interested in harming him in some way. Perhaps he annoyed some people, some people might wish they were him or something as I saw some bad things they said on some message board about how they expected him to fail and that he would tell people of his being in a touring band and no one will remember and therefore it will all be for nothing, who knows. So his reactions are natural and expected.
I also said things because of how I thought people would react to what happened with King Khan and would blame King Khan for everything because he’s more likely to be labelled crazy, and I think even Mark Sultan himself right now based on what I have seen him say on the internet accepts some responsibility for what happened, and I’m not surprised by that, he is a good enough person to do that. He also wants to be associated with Khan in the future but I won’t be completely cynical about it, as he spent a lot of time working with Khan and it’s very hard to throw that away forever.
