Legendary actor, filmmaker, and wildman, Dennis Hopper passed away today at the age of 74 from complications due to prostate cancer. RIP Dennis, you were one of the finest and one my favorites. Here’s a brief clip of one of Hopper’s greatest performances as the psychotic gangster, Frank Booth in the film Blue Velvet (1986).
Dean Spunt, drummer/singer of KLYAM favorite band No Age, was recently socked in the face by club bouncers in Portugal. This according to Randy Randall, the other member of No Age. Two close friends of the band were also involved in this random act of violence. Dean is one of the nicest musicians I’ve gotten to meet. I can’t imagine anyone causing harm to such a great guy. From the looks of the pictures, it seems like his eyebrow got messed up pretty bad. No Age’s publicist said he is fine and of course we are all glad to hear that.
It seems like everyone these days is just waiting for The Walkmen’s sixth studio album to drop! No name. No release date. A tour of England with the Black Keys? That is something that is known. The dates are known, too.
Consequence of Sound – Starting May 17th, Adult Swim will host a new single weekly until July 12th. Kicking off the series will be Superwolf (Will Oldham and Matt Sweeney). From then on, it’s Madvillain, Killer Mike, Washed Out (featuring Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek), High on Fire, Black Lips, LCD Soundsystem, Cults, and Freddie Gibbs. Just an FYI, LCD Soundsystem’s contribution is the previously released Holy Ghost remix of “Drunk Girls”, along with a video. And if that weren’t enough, the Cults will also have a video premiere. That and television featuring stop-motion animation; what a company.
His “controversial” view shouldn’t really be controversial at all. It’s a radical libertarian inspired view that is either ignored by the corporate media or, inversely, made mainstream. Saying that racial discrimination should be allowed among private institutions may seem like an outright racist view, indeed, but it falls right in line with the theory of limited government in business and economic affairs. Of course, such “limited government” should be in place to cover racial discrimination, which is a clear violation of human rights. Rand covered his ass by reversing his beliefs on the matter and saying that he supports the 1964 Civil Rights Act. I don’t really see that as much of a compromise to the libertarian outlook; rather, it’s a more pragmatic stance on a serious subject.
How convenient! Three of my favorite bands will be playing together at the same location on a little tour. The Boston gig will be at the Bank of America Pavilion. Naturally, I’m going to see what I can do to make this. It’s still ways away: September 12. Side note: Dum Dum Girls are hot shit as an opening band, aren’t they? First, King Khan and BBQ then Girls and now this.

You know that pole in front of the stage at the Paradise Rock Club, the one that lead singers often take note of – and not in a nice way?
It won’t be a problem after Labor Day.
The pole isn’t going anywhere – it provides structural support – but the Paradise stage is moving about 20 feet toward the Commonwealth Avenue side of the building.

No concerts from July 1 to September 7. Concerts that would be held at Paradise are probably going to be relocated at fellow Live Nation venues like House of Blues and the Orpheum as well as the new Royale.
New Split 7″ The world’s spiciest duo, King Khan and Bloodshot Bill offer a currified romper of Gomper (clocking in at 5:09 – the exact time of the Stones version!) on this New Dehli platter! All they ask in return is that you please remove your shoes. Turn it over and dig Scotland’s least likely hit makers as they blaze through everyone’s favorite Nanker Phelge floor packer!
