Dealers Have Cash For Clunkers Hangover

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — After the mad rush of car sales sparked by Cash for Clunkers, dealers will now find they have plenty of downtime to count their money.
The popular program, which ended Monday, will leave many showrooms without cars to sell or customers looking to buy them.
What do you know? Cash for Clunkers was a great success in the short term, and now what? This doesn’t bode well for Washington’s other ideas for the economy.

“Beatles: Rock Band” Will Kick Ass
That sound you hear is me, Chris, Ramsden, and all the other Beatles fan boys having an orgasm after reading this article.
GILES MARTIN WAS conjuring spirits, or perhaps summoning gods. The tools for this ritual included a pair of omnidirectional microphones, a digital mixing console and a hastily-procured set of teacups and saucers, but the magic was in the room itself. Studio Two at Abbey Road in London has changed very little since 1969, when Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison recorded together for the last time. The Steinway upright McCartney played on “Lady Madonna” still stands in one corner, its middle keys worn to the wood. Sound-absorbing quilts hang in wide stripes down the whitewashed brick walls. The view from the control room on the second level is much as it would have been for George Martin, Giles’s father, who oversaw the creation of nearly every Beatles album from this room. Giles held a slender finger to his lips, which turned up into a playful grin. He handed cups and saucers to three people nearby and mimed a sip. The others followed his lead, and a few feet away the microphones captured the small clattering sound of four people drinking tea.
The odd recording session in March was one very small contribution to what Apple Corps — the company still controlled by McCartney, Starr and the widows of Lennon and Harrison — hopes will be the most deeply immersive way ever of experiencing the music and the mythology of the Beatles. The band that upended the cultural landscape of the 1960s is now hitching its legacy to the medium of a new generation: the video game.
Workers Recover Last Hudson Crash Victims
Yeah…there definitely needs to be air traffic regulation over the Hudson.
The bodies of two men were recovered from the skeletal remains of a single-engine plane that police divers and crane operators pulled from the Hudson River on Tuesday afternoon, the authorities said.
The recovery capped the major portion of an extensive salvage effort; workers have now found the bodies of all nine victims of the midair collision on Saturday between the plane and a New York sightseeing helicopter.
Red Sox Suck, Make Big News
The top story on newsmap is how the Red Sox suck. My Yankee-loving bosses must be overjoyed.
Nearly a full month has passed since the All-Star break, and over that span the Red Sox rank among the true dregs of the league. Only the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, and Kansas City Royals have worse records than the Red Sox’ 8-14.

Stars Pay Tribute To John Hughes
WENN.COM
Steve Martin, Macaulay Culkin and Matthew Broderick are leading the tributes to director John Hughes, who died on Thursday.Hughes passed away after suffering a heart attack while out walking in Manhattan, New York.
The father of two stepped away from the limelight in the 1990s but stars from the big screen have offered their fond memories of the director, whose career spanned back to the 1980s.
Broderick, who was directed by Hughes in the 1986 comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, was devastated to hear of his death and has sent his condolences to the moviemaker’s grief-stricken relatives.
He says, “I am truly shocked and saddened by the news about my old friend John Hughes. He was a wonderful, very talented guy and my heart goes out to his family.”
Actress Molly Ringwald, who starred in three of Hughes’ hit movies – Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink – was equally shocked to hear of his sudden passing.
She adds, “I was stunned and incredibly sad to hear about the death of John Hughes. He was and will always be such an important part of my life. He will be missed – by me and by everyone that he has touched. My heart and all my thoughts are with his family now.”
Veteran star Steve Martin, who worked with Hughes on 1987’s Planes, Trains And Automobiles, remembers the director with affection: “John Hughes was a great director, but his gift was in screenwriting. He created deep and complex characters, rich in humanity and humour.”
And former child star Macaulay Culkin, who worked with Hughes on Uncle Buck and the Home Alone movies in the early 1990s, is adamant that the late film-maker’s work will live on for decades to come.
He says, “I was a fan of both his work and a fan of him as a person. The world has lost not only a quintessential filmmaker whose influence will be felt for generations, but a great and decent man.”
