This one shouldn’t come as a surprise. Jay was influenced by The Adverts (obviously). Listen to the vocal delivery and drum beats in the verse. You’ll know what I’m hearing.

Well actually, correct me (anyone) if I’m wrong, but Jay never heard of The Adverts until after the release of Blood Visions. Someone said he sounded like them and showed their music to him. Now, I don’t know if their music served as an influence on his later material such as “It’s So Useless,” it may have, but I think it was more of a similarity thing and/or a mutual respect. In any case, good shit.
The probability of “Useless” not being influenced by Adverts seems on the surface slim-to-none. The actuality of them just being similar by chance would be quite amazing. You’re right, though.
Good point lol. It might have been most of the record and then he added it. I don’t know? Maybe I heard wrong; from the start I said I didn’t know if that was true.
He also did an Eater cover several years earlier so he did have some familiarity with British punk. That Eater song is best known for being shown in a movie being performed as a pig’s severed head is being smashed.

“The Adverts’ “We Who Wait” was covered for Blood Visions! How could he not have heard of them until its release?
