Who to See: Neko Case or Tapes n’ Tapes

I was as going to go to the Tapes n’ Tapes concert at the Paradise on February 3, but instead I am considering going to go see Neko Case at the Wilbur. It is a tough decision actually I never saw either of them live and you never know what can happen, bands break up, Neko Case could not tour for another 5 years, stuff happens. I remember the first concert I was going to see was Elliott Smith, I ended up missing the show which turned out to be his last tour before he died. So I figured I would take this oppurtunity to occasionally take a look at who is playing at various places in Boston in a new feature “Who to See” . The idea is simple, you listen to a song from a couple of artist playing in the area on that date (date will be chosen based on who’s playing and how far in advance) and you decide who you would rather see.

First Up: Neko Case “People Got A Lotta Nerve”

Next: Tapes n’ Tapes “Insistor”

So let me know what you think!

  1. Hmmm. Well, I’ve never listened to Neko Case until now and I like that song you posted. I wanted to go to the T+T show, but doesn’t look like its going to happen. They’ll probably be back in a year or two or whatever, Neko maybe not as you said. Toughie

  2. Yeah Neko Case is with the New Pornographers, plus she has done back up vocal for both Bob and Jakob Dylan in the past couple of years. This is actually a one off show it looks like, so maybe she is a) getting ready for a tour and may or may not skip boston now that she played it or b) just doing a one off gig without any intention of going on tour again (she just did back to back tours with Jakob Dylan and the New Pornographers) so maybe I should catch her now. Tapes N’ Tapes I just got into now but who knows maybe there one argument away from a indefinite hiatus, Neko Case its just her, its just a question of when she wants to perform. I will probably go with Neko though, only because I got a feeling this will be my last time to catch her for a while as a solo act.

  3. I like this idea for a segment. I’d go with Tapes n’ Tapes because I am a “fan”: this boils down to loving a couple of their songs (“Manitoba” and consequently the song you posed “Insistor”), but unfamiliar with the rest of their material. I liked the other artist you posted, but not as much. The point you bring up is chilling to a music/conert lover’s bones. I always feel like one of my favorite bands could break up at any moment, it’s possible. And being a big fan of Elliott Smith myself, that really sucks man! I didn’t start listening to him until a few years after his death however. This is why I really want to see the upcoming Bright Eyes show, because I think they are calling it quits after this.
