Comments: I’ve always heard about Broken Social Scene, but I’ve never given them a proper listen. “World Sick” is a solid foray into the band’s discography. It’s one of those under-the-radar epic songs, similar to a Dan Boeckner-led Wolf Parade jam. “Texico Bitches” has an awesome rhythm, personally reminiscent of Uninhabitable Mansions. Another thing…I would be a little shocked if Here We Go Magic wasn’t at least a little inspired by these guys. And another thing: the band’s tempo is little bit slow or else a lot of these B/B+ tunes would be A-/A range. It makes them a bit forgettable.

Grade: B (85)

  1. It’s a good start to my first ever time listening to them. A good venture into the unknown that is their music.

  2. “the band’s tempo is a little slow”? sorry but that’s an absurd comment.
for anyone that wants a solid foray or whatever, listen to their You Forgot It in People. It’s one of the best indie rock albums of the past decade.
Forgiveness Rock Record is a solid listen. It may not match up to You Forgot it (but not much does) as far as its raw originality and careless grit but it’s nice to see some more focused creations after their last self-titled album, which was a bit too loose and obscure. There’s still plenty of noisy texture, psych-tinged space and that adolescent-like spirit but maybe a little more maturity in direction. It’s an eclectic group of songs and most, as always, should translate well live.
