4th of July

Today was a celebration of our lack of freedom! So while we appear to be very free, we really aren’t. Actually, the founding fathers would probably be pissed and ashamed. We haven’t really come a long way at all. The USA PATRIOT Act is still on the books…I think that’s enough.

  1. I definitely agree with the point that we are not “free,” by any reasonable standard of freedom, however we are comparatively the freest nation in the world. Also, “We haven’t really come a long way at all.” Really? Tell that to black people, women, gays, disabled, and all other oppressed people as well as privileged kids like you and me (haha). We wouldn’t be able to dissent like we are now 200 + years ago (I’m not referring to technological restraints lol). Amongst other freedoms we have achieved over the years. This is not to say that we shouldn’t demand and fight for our freedoms or try to preserve the freedoms we have. Don’t misconstrue me; our rights can be stripped away like that (snaps fingers). Note: all freedoms came as a result of the PUSH from the bottom and not from the CONTROL of the top.
