“Outta the garage and onto the world stage” – Spin
Wavves discuss their admiration and desire to meet L’il Wayne, festivals, a new EP possibly set for August, the Deftones, amongst other things.
I love the build ups on Weirdo Rippers (2007), No Age’s first LP (well sorta…). Everything is purposeful, in other words, I get exactly why they do everything, or at least I think I do. The anticipation, the quiet is made all the more exceptional when they finally explode into the heavier half of the song and include vocals as well. For a lot of artists, I can’t get into their build ups, they just seem to be creating dead space and wasting my time, which is probably not the case, but it seems that way. In any case, a great tune and this video perfectly captures it. Now, all I need is to get No Age to play in my basement…
P.S. Dean is wearing a Mika Miko shirt. Go Dean!

Anthony gives us a solid ten minute review- interesting thoughts as always; I can’t believe I had never conjured up The Ramones sound on “Raw Meat,” indeed I hear it now haha.

So y’all know how much we loved Wavves’ 2010 classic King of the Beach (KLYAM Record of the Year), well in honor of the year anniversery of the digital release of the “Post Acid” single, Glen and I decided to dedicate twenty minutes or so to discussing the greater points of the LP, some of the band’s background/history, and most important of all, whether it holds up after one year and whether or not it will continue to receive as much praise as time goes by.
This is a pretty rad video of the boys playing “Treat Me Like a Dog” all the way back in what could possibly be their first tour, Janurary 21, 2005. Wow, way before my time! Any KKBBQ fans out there that saw this?
Just for all the ladies that went to see them last night with the Backstreet Boys HAHA.
“PLAY FROM YOUR FUCKING HEART!!!”

Hey y’all, we have a new band of the week: Lotus Plaza. Lotus Plaza is the solo project of Deerhunter guitarist Lockett Pundt. I just recently started listening to Lockett’s solo work and a couple of weeks back I made LP a “Band Rec,” but I enjoyed the music so much I decided, well fuck it let’s make em’ BOTW! LP has a very calm, atmospheric, dreamy sound, fans of Deerhunter and Atlas Sound as well should really appreciate this, like Atlas, I feel like this is really just an extension of Deerhunter, but instead this showcases the unique quality of Lockett’s songwriting. I know the whole shoegazy-dreamy description gets thrown around a lot, but it’s true. I find it best to listen to Lotus around dusk or when you can’t fall asleep at night or you’re half awake and about to start your day. In any case, it fits perfect with a hazy state, when your transitioning from one consciousness to the other. My favorite song right now is “Rain Down,” but I still need to hear more from Mr. Pundt. Thanks for the music.

Word… new album (Arabia Mountain) is hot.
You know the routine, I turned on my ipod and hit shuffle…

The Stooges– “Death Trip” (1973)- Great way to kick off the list!

Korn– “Blind” (1994)- This is a good example of how I am not lying when I put these shuffles up! Though this is actually a fairly badass song for what its worth.
Meat Puppets– “Never to Be Found” (1994)- Haven’t heard this in a while.

The Replacements– “White and Lazy” (1982)- Funny, bluesy number from the boys.

Sonic Youth– “Shadow of A Doubt” (1986)- Apparently my shuffle is reading Our Band Could Be Your Life…

Black Lips– “Take My Heart” (2009)- Not the best from my favorites, but I’ll take it.

Slayer– “Criminally Insane” (1986)- From Reign in Blood, one of the few metal records that have stuck with me over the years.

Run-D.M.C.- “Walk This Way” (1986)- Another song I haven’t listened to in ages.

Nirvana– “Milk It” (1993)- One of the noisier/rougher cuts from In Utero

Ramones– “Cretin Hop” (1977)- One of the best album openers.

Flipper– “Sex Bomb” (1982)- Epic Closer!!! (for this shuffle)
