“How can you have a war on terrorism when war itself is terrorism?”- Howard Zinn.
RIP Howard I hope all is well in another world. Out of the vast sea of astute and indisputiably appropriate Howard Zinn quotes, I chose this one as it raises the primary question regarding the so called, “War On Terrorism,” how can you end violence when your largest vehicle of combat is violence on the grandest of scales?- sadly, a question few pose on both pro and anti war sides.
Ah, it’s even more hypocritical than that and in Cuba they like to plaster that fact wherever possible. When I was there was a great big sign posted near Jose Marti Airport that had a picture of Jorge Posada Cariles, airline bomber, on one side and George W. Bush on the other and it declared “Those who help terrorists are terrorists”. I also saw this display devoted to the Cuban Five who are imprisoned in the United States because of their work in terrorism prevention there. Florida has been a hotbed for these groups there to attack Cuba and their mission was to stop them – they were convicted of espionage.
