Hilarious Black Lips Coachella 2012 Interview

“If we wanted to blow this place up we could.”

Man, I gotta hear these fucking badass amps! WHOO! This interview exemplifies the KLYAM spirit, this is real rock and roll, custom made baby.

SOTD: Oblivians- “Bad Man” (1996)

Keeping up with Glen’s recent Girls of the Gravitron post, I thought I would stick with the classic Memphis tradition and make the song of the day my favorite Oblivians number, “Bad Man.” I do not know much from the Oblivians’s catalog, as I am still getting my feet wet, but for the past few years I have dabbled in their music every now and then. I think I am going to try and listen to more of their shit for once. “Bad Man” just has this great anthemic feel to it, and I am a man who loves his anthems. Enjoy.

Damn, this song was recorded when I was in Kindergarten!

Black Lips Coachella 2012, Cole “Whips Out Twiddle Rompus”…

Cole Alexander- Rolling Stone

Here’s a link to an article by the Christ Wire that I find very suspect, but nonetheless entertaining in classic, Black Lips mythological fashion. http://christwire.org/2012/04/coachella-lineup-2012-the-black-lips-cole-alexander-whips-out-twiddle-rompus-plays-guitar-with-it/

Band Rec: Fat Creeps

Fat Creeps are a sweet band from Boston I saw Friday night at O’brien’s Pub. It appears they have been making a name for themselves and playing numerous shows around these parts, including one with Bundles of Joy, a band with Wakefield roots (Wakefield, MA is KLYAM’s hometown!) Fat Creeps are not the most conventional rock band, but they crank out some really catchy, inspiring tunes. I highly recommend this band to fans of unique pop music that places a stronger emphasis on passion over musicianship; so basically good music.

Here’s a video of the Fat Creeps playing at the Dirty Douglas in Lowell on Novermber 22, 2011. I’m kicking myself now for not attending this show. I procastinated as usual and had to write a Psychology and Women research paper. The irony is that Fat Creeps would have fit perfectly with my researach on women in music!

and while we’re at it, here is the Creeps’s kickass music video for “Nancy Drew.”

New Hunx Interview/ Love Advice

According to Hunx the customer is NOT always right…

Wavves- “Wavves” (Live at Amoeba 2010)

This is from a little while back, when Billy Hayes was still with the group. Looking good Billy! Definitely one of my favorite Wavves numbers, unfortunatley the studio version has been taken down, so here’s a live cut from their performance at Amoeba Records on August 18, 2010. Also, here’s a link to the full set and interview: http://www.amoeba.com/live-shows/videos/wavves.html

Natural Child SXSW Interview

Here’s a quick SXSW interview with Natural Child conducted by Balcony TV. As Glen used to say, when it rains, it pours around here, and if you have been paying attention (as you should be) then you would know that Natural Child is a massive KLYAM fave. Check them out, use the internet.

SOTD: Natti Child- “Ray Thompson’s Blues” (2010)

This song is dedicated to Jeff Spicoli!  It is the badass version of every classic Beach Boys tune. All you need is some sun, some hunnies, and some brews, and you’re all set. It reminds me of the turbulant age of thirteen when you discover the wonders of masturbation, drugs, and Karl Marx. This is an older track, but the band is coming out with an LP this very month. Last year’s 1971 was one of the best, so I’m really pumped for this 2012 follow up. Natural Child is one of the best bands going right now and the new record is called For the Love of the Game out on Burger Records on 4/20!
