Black Lips Touring Middle East!

NME

That’s right, after nearly four years (or more) of planning a tour of the Middle East, the band has finally landed their most anitcipated gig(s). Going where very, very few  rock and roll bands have gone before. The proud, the few, the Black Lips!

Now, I know what you Boston fans are thinking, damn wouldn’t it have been excellent if the Lips played  a week long tour of back to back shows at the Middle East upstairs and downstairs?!  Yes, it would have :( but we can’t be selfish, the Lips have to spread their glorious rock and roll to all regions of the world.

Here’s the earliest interview I recall of the foursome vocalizing interests in playing Iraq/the Middle East region. This is from an MTV interview with John Norrris from June 2008. At the 3 minute mark they bring up the possibility of playing in Iraq. Check it out:

The Handsome Furs Break Up

Sad news, from Facebook:

“With a heavy heart the time has come to let all of you know that Handsome Furs are no more.
The most important thing that needs to be said right now is how extremely grateful we are to all the fans all over the world that showered us with love and support over the years. Thank you for everything! It’s been an incredible 6 years and we owe it all to you.”

KLYAM was fortunate to attend a pair of Furs shows, check out the reviews:

2011 @ Brighton Music Hall
2009 @ Great Scott

I really was into their sound — it was totally unique to me at first listen seeing as I wasn’t too familiar with electro. Dan and Alexei crafted some extremely catchy songs and were a sight to see live. The music lives on, of course, so check it out if you haven’t.

RIP MCA (Adam Yauch)

Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys died today at the age of 47 after a long battle with cancer. RIP brother you made some fine, timeless music while you were on this planet.

Happy 50th Bday Bill!

On December 17, Bill Hicks would have turned 50 years old. Sadly, he passed away of pancreatic canceer at the age of 32, but his legacy is growing bigger and bigger each year. Kudos to Keith Olbermann for this special report. For what Bill stood for (or more appropriately stood against) having his material and his ideas presented on a national news station in America means a lot. RIP Brother.
