MONTREAL – Riot police are holding back a crowd of shoe-tossing protesters who are out to show their disdain for George W. Bush.Police in riot gear and others on horseback are keeping the crowd of hundreds away from the Montreal hotel where the former U.S. president is speaking.
Some are tossing shoes toward the building, and chants of “George Bush – terrorist” are echoing in the street.
A pair of protesters forced their way into the police line, and were wrestled to the ground and taken away.
Inside the hotel, nearly 1,000 spectators have paid $400 to hear Bush speak, and to enter the building where they passed through airport-style metal detectors.
Ironically, these anti-war protests and Bush’s speech are taking place outside the same hotel where the ultimate anti-war anthem was recorded: John Lennon’s Give Peace a Chance.
Lennon recorded the song with wife Yoko Ono in 1969, during their bed-in for peace at Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth hotel.
Bush is a war criminal! But so aren’t all the others. Nee nee nee nu.
